William "Bill" Whitney

William Henry “Bill” Whitney, age 94 formerly of Delavan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Heartland Senior Living, Parker Oaks Campus. Memorial services will be held at 2pm on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Hope United Methodist Church in Blue Earth. A time for visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at Lura Cemetery.

Bill was born on April 15, 1929 in Delavan Township to William Sr. and Nellie (Wallace) Whitney. He attended Delavan High School, graduating in 1947. Bill was then enlisted in the United States Army. After his service, he came back to the Delavan area where he farmed and milked cows until his retirement. On January 9, 1949, Bill married Betty Abbas at the Delavan Methodist Church. Together, the couple would share many wonderful years together.

Bill was a member of the Delavan Methodist Church, then the Winnebago United Methodist Church, and most recently, Hope United Methodist in Blue Earth. He was also a member of the American Legion, Delavan Farmer’s Co-op, and served on the Delavan School Board. Bill also served on the Benco Board for several years, the Cooperative Power Board, First National Bank Elmore Board, and the Farmer’s State Bank Delavan Board. In his free time, Bill enjoyed woodworking. He was very talented. Creating all sorts of things, from shelves to clocks. He also enjoyed watching Minnesota sports.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Wendy (Don) Nickel of Kiester, Tracy (Kay) Whitney of Mapleton, and Tom Whitney of Mesa, AZ; brother, Roger (Diane) Whitney of Winnebago; sister-in-law, Caroline Whitney formerly of Blue Earth; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, and son, Terry Whitney.
