A standout athlete, Paul played both football and basketball, with one of his fondest memories being a high school basketball game where the team scored an astonishing 102 points, and Paul contributed 38 of them.

While on leave from the U.S. Navy in 1957, Paul met the love of his life, Carol Wood, at a dance at the Bass Lake Ballroom. The couple married on August 26, 1961, at Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan. Shortly thereafter, Paul and Carol moved to the Juergens family farm. Over the next 63 years, they developed the farm into a successful operation, which included raising corn and soybeans, managing a hog operation, and running an efficient seed dealership. Paul had a deep passion for farming and always sought to improve the business, ensuring its success and passing it proudly to the next generation. He and Carol also balanced farm life with raising their children—Kathleen, Michael, and Mark—who were active in many school sports.

Paul was a devoted member of Jackson Lake Lutheran Church in Amboy, where he served faithfully for many years. He also enjoyed playing golf on Thursdays at Riverside Town & Country Club in Blue Earth and having coffee with the local men in Amboy.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol; their children Kathleen (Terry) Stencel of Austin, Michael (Shannon) Juergens of Amboy, and Mark (Sherry) Juergens of Cumming, GA; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
