Orville Halverson, age 97 of Mapleton passed away Friday October 13, 2023 at the Mapleton Community Home. A public graveside service will be held Friday October 20, 11 AM at East Lutheran Cemetery in Delavan with Rev. Steve Berkeland officiating. Following the committal service everyone is invited to join the family for lunch & fellowship, 11:30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mapleton. Online condolences can be left at www.spencerowen. com
Orville was born January 3, 1926 to Otto and Nettie (Hermanruud) Halverson in Lura Township. His mother passed away when Orville was only a month old. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1944 and on September 11, 1949, he married the love of his life, Harriet Osmundson. Together they would raise their three children on their farm outside of Delavan where they lived for 42 years, farming the land and raising livestock. After retiring, they moved to Mapleton where they have ben for 32 years. Orville enjoyed reading, golfing and traveling. They took many family trips all over the US and they also wintered in Mission, TX for 33 winters. He was a member of the Lura Township board and also active at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Harriet of Mapleton, sons Bruce and Brian of Delavan and daughter Julie (Frank) Drake of Edina. Grandchildren, Ben Drake and Rachel (Steve) Cornfield as well as many other extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers R. Julian and Erling and sisters Esther Eidbo and Bernice Wheeler.
