Harriet M. Bonnett, age 92, of Amboy, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems- Mankato.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Amboy, with Rev. Elaine Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, Mapleton. Visitation time will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church, 240 North Street E, Amboy, and 1 hour before the service at the church. Harriet was born to Corliss and Hope (Hazel) Grover on April 8, 1927 on a farm east of Amboy in Sterling Township. She had two older sisters and two younger brothers. She attended Sterling Country School for eight years and then Amboy High School, graduating in 1945. Harriet went to Mankato Teachers College for three years and then taught for a short while at the Flat District Country School in 1948.
On April 13, 1947 Harriet married her high school sweetheart, Wesley B. Bonnett, son of Charles and Dorothy Bonnett of Sterling. They farmed Celia Cornell’s farm in Sterling for 12 years and then moved to Dr. Carey’s farm on Lura Lake for 25 years until their son, Dan, took over in 1985. They then moved to their home in Amboy in 1985. She has lived at New Perspective Senior Living since 2014.
Harriet and Wesley were parents of four children; Leah (Larry) Frank, Mapleton, Bonnie Hansen, Columbia, MO, Dan (Edith) Bonnett, Amboy and Mary Jo (Dean) Leiding of Baudette, MN.
Harriet was organist and pianist for the Amboy Presbyterian Church for over fifty years and also played at area establishments and nursing homes. She was a member of the Amboy Rebekah Lodge for 60 years and of the Sterling Community Study Club since 1951. She was a lifelong member of Amboy Presbyterian Church serving as elder and Sunday School teacher, a 4-H club leader, member of Blue Earth County Farm Bureau since 1948, Blue Earth County Library Board member for two terms and two terms on the Mapleton Community Home board, and secretary of the Sterling Cemetery Association for 34 years.
Harriet’s large extended family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed golfing, bridge and card playing, baking cookies for family and friends, camping and traveling to Mesa, AZ for 28 winters.
Harriet is survived by daughters Leah (Larry) Frank, Mapleton, Bonnie Hansen, Columbia, MO and Mary Jo (Dean) Leiding of Baudette, MN, and daughter-in-law Edith Bonnett, Amboy, 18 grandchildren and 30+ great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years and son Dan.
