Elmer George Dahms, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on August 28, 2024. Born on April 10, 1924, in Mapleton, Minnesota, Elmer lived a life marked by resilience, courage, and unwavering love for his family.
Elmer proudly served his country during World War II, enlisting in the Navy December 1941.
His service encompassed from the monumental D-Day invasion to the signing of surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay, embodying the spirit of a generation that fought for freedom and justice.
After the war, he returned to Winnebago and married the love of his life, Ramona, with whom he raised three children. He instilled in them the values of hard work, kindness, and service to others. Elmer was not only a devoted father but also a nurturing grandfather and great-grandfather, always ready with a story from his youth or a lesson learned from life’s experiences.
In addition to his military service, he had a long and fulfilling career as an electrician culminating in Dahms Electric, He managed Kenny’s Grill and Drive-Inn for 13 years for his brother Kenny Dahms. Elmer, along with his brothers, Kenny and Vern, were the original partners developing a cable company which is now BevComm.
Elmer was an avid gardener, a passionate storyteller, and a dedicated volunteer in his community. He found joy in sharing meals with his family and friends, often reminiscing about his time in the service and lessons he learned along the way.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Ramona, his daughter, Sandra (Ron) Tolzmann, and his grandson Todd (Renee) Owen. He is survived by his son, Randy (Yolanda), daughter Charlene (Bruce) Bartels, grandsons Doug (Susan), Tim (Jackie) Owen, Matthew Enger, Aaron (Abby) Tolzmann, David Tolzmann, his granddaughters Carly (Ben) Breitberg, Crystal (Jeremy) St Louis, Audra (Matthew) Thomas, and Danielle (Dustin) Every. 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on September 5, 2024, 11:00 A.M. at the Foundations Bible Church, 205 Cleveland Ave W., Winnebago, honoring Elmer’s life and service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veteran’s Association in his name, supporting those who served our country.
Elmer George Dahms, a true hero, will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held for Elmer at the First Baptist Church in Winnebago. On Thursday, September 5, 2024. Committal Service will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Winnebago, Minnesota.
