Donald Earl Pettit

Donald Earl Pettit passed away Saturday June 29, 2019 at Heartland Senior Living – Parker Oaks in Winnebago. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Winnebago Saturday, August 3rd at 1:30 pm with Rev. Daren Barnett officiating.  Don was born on October 23, 1936 in Winnebago to Earl and Jessie (Dennis) Pettit. After he graduated from Winnebago High School in 1955, he worked with his dad at Pettit Welding.  In 1957 he married Carol Nagel, they remained in Winnebago where they raised their five children. In 1974 he was part owner in Ron and Don’s Trenching until 1977 when he went to work for Weerts Construction where he remained until retiring in 1999. Upon retirement, Don and his wife moved to Lake Butler, Florida where they had spent the past several winters with his brother Ray. He spent most of his time caring for his plants and fruit trees, as well as volunteering at the First Baptist Church. He also enjoyed his annual trip back to Minnesota to visit friends and family. In August of 2018 he moved to Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Don is survived by his loving wife Carol, children, Jeff (Patti) Pettit of Winnebago; Karen (Bob) Garner of Vermillion, SD; Barb Pettit of Pasadena, CA; Mike (Sharon) Pettit of Waconia, MN & Tim (Molly) Pettit of Hillsboro, WI. Grandchildren: Danielle Pettit, Becky Brown, Chris Holtz, Eric Holtz, Aaron Holtz, Brandt Garner, Larkin Garner, Jacob Pettit, Bethany (David) Jones, Katy Fawcett and Jaimy Pettit. Great-Grandchildren: Kayla, Conner, Taylor, Hayden, Amnisty, Amaris, Kiera and Addison Siblings: Ray (Judy) Pettit of Lake Butler, WI, June (Glen) Domes of Matheson, CO, Everett (Dulce) Pettit, Bonnie Whitlow, Toni Diaz, Randy Nowak, Keith Nowak, Jerry Nowak and Tammy Nowak In-laws: Randy Fuchs of Blue Earth, David Nagel of Blue Earth, Janet (Chuck) Henderson of Lincoln, NE; Marilyn (Roger) Bommersbach of Bruce, SD; Ted (Joni) Nagel of Winnebago. Preceded in death by his parents; Jessie Pettit and Earl Pettit and his sister Joyce Fuchs.
