Lorraine M. Messer
Lorraine Messer, age 86 of Winnebago, died on Sunday, September 05, 2010 at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the 1st United Methodist Church, Winnebago, with Rev. Durene Cornell officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Lorraine Messer was born at Winnebago, Minnesota on May 25, 1924 the daughter of Everett and Maurine (Moore) Haight. She was raised and educated in Winnebago graduating from Winnebago High School in 1942. She attended Mankato State Teachers College, graduating in 1944. On June 4, 1946 Lorraine married Marshall “Mert” Messer at her parent’s farm in rural Winnebago. Lorraine taught in Winnebago, Illinois for a few years while Mert was in the service. When she returned to Minnesota she taught in the surrounding community including: Elmore and Huntley and eventually ending up in Delavan for 29 years before retiring. After retirement Lorraine and Mert enjoyed traveling the country. She was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church, chairing and serving on numerous committees.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Marshall Messer of Winnebago; son, David (Karen) Messer of Redwood Falls; daughter, Mary (Del) Thompson of St. Paul; brother, Pete (Shirley) Haight of Winnebago; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sandy Cone, brother, Duane and sister, Alice Mae.
