Robert Butterfield, age 78, of Winnebago formerly of Hackensack, MN; died on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the United Hospital in Blue Earth. Memorial Services will be on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan, with Rev. Todd Substad and Rev. Duane Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home, Winnebago and continuing one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. www.spencerowen.com
Robert Butterfield was born on January 13, 1932, at Kansas City, Missouri, and adopted by Raymond and Verlie (Gaede) Butterfield. His family moved from Burt, Iowa in 1937 to Delavan where he was educated at Delavan Public High School and graduated in 1949. He was united in marriage to Deloris Abbas on January 22, 1950. Robert farmed in rural Delavan until 1990. After retirement Robert and Deloris moved to Hackensack. They resided in Hackensack until recently, when they moved back to the Winnebago area in January 2010. Robert was a board member and a past President of Delavan Farmers Elevator. Robert was also a member of the Longville Community Church in Longville, Minnesota. Robert enjoyed playing sports at Delavan Public High School, where he received All-Conference Honors in football. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, square dancing, and gardening. He also loved to travel with his wife and family. Robert was very proud of his family and enjoyed sharing his love of fishing, hunting and handyman skills with all of them.
Robert is survived by his wife, Deloris of Winnebago, formerly of Hackensack; daughters, Sharon (Donald) Hoffman of Delavan; Lucinda (Steve) Mason of Mankato; Joanne (Lyle) Hoffman of Delavan; Patricia (Patrick) Pomplun of Alexandria; Sarah (Joseph) Nucci of Gilbert, AZ; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Eunice (Harold) Risberg; Mona Abbas and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Jett Essig; son-in-law, William Essig; and brother-in-law, Arnold Abbas Sr.
