Merton A. Dobie, age 83, of Amboy, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at United Hospital in Blue Earth.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at First Presbyterian Church in Amboy, with Rev. Mike Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Basey Cemetery rural Winnebago with full military honors. Visitation time will be from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at Spencer Owen Funeral Home 345 Sixth Avenue S.E. Winnebago, and one hour prior to service.
Mert was born August 10, 1925, in Sterling Township the son of William and Pearl (Brush) Dobie. Mert was raised and educated in Amboy; he graduated from Amboy High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation in 1950 he was drafted and served in the Korean War with the 1st Calvary United States Army. Mert married Merva (Butler) Eisenmenger on June 21st 1963. The two lived in Amboy area. Merva preceded him in death in 2000. Mert was a life long farmer and cattleman in the Amboy area. Mert was a member of the Basey Church for many years; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Oddfellows, Jennings American Legion Post #276, and former Shelby township supervisor.
Mert is survived by his son, Gary (Jan) Eisenmenger of Amboy, his brother, Bob (Dee) Dobie of Amboy, his brother, Bill (Bev) Dobie of Winnebago, his granddaughter, Rebekka (Nathaniel) Stumme of Duluth, his grandson, Jay (Jenina) Eisenmenger of Amboy, his granddaughter, Elisabeth (Josh) Omang of Chaska, his brother in law, Jack (Lenora) Butler of Winnebago, his great granddaughters, Ellie and Lillian Stumme, and Julia Omang, and many nieces and nephews.
Mert is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and one infant grandchild.
