Vernon Lee Oliver, age 86, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, MN.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago, with Rev. Durene Cornell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2015, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and one hour before the services. Vernon was born in Winnebago, MN on March 2, 1929, the son of Leon and Vera (Stevenson) Oliver. He married Darlene Dooley on May 5, 1951 in Fairmont, MN. They had three children, Gary, David and Kathy.
He bought Garlick Trucking and trucked until he went in the Army in 1951, serving in Korea. Upon his discharge he trucked, worked for Johnson Implement, was the school bus supervisor, owned and operated Vernon Oliver Motor Grader Service and worked for Loveall Construction. His father asked him to run the farm and he did until 2003 when it was sold.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Oliver of Winnebago, son Gary Oliver of Winnebago, son David (Debra) Oliver of Mankato, daughter Kathy Oliver of Winnebago, grandson Todd Oliver of North Mankato, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James Oliver.
