DAVID DUANE “DAVE” SCHNEIDER, age 74, of Winnebago, MN, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato (Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 10:30 AM, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago, with Rev. William Sabol officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation time will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and 1 hour before the service at the church. David was born on September 1, 1940, in Algona, IA, the son of Paul and Hazel (Casler) Schneider. He graduated from Algona High School in 1959 and married Linda Jane Dontje of Winnebago on April 18, 1961. To that union were born Todd David and Denise Renae.
He served his country in the army from January 31,1961 to January 30, 1964. He was stationed at Fort Irwin in Barstow, California where Linda joined him with Todd after he was born. When Dave was discharged, the family moved to Algona where Denise was born. They then moved to Winnebago soon after. In 1977 the family moved to the farm where Dave spent the rest of his life.
Dave enjoyed several different jobs in Winnebago. He owned and operated Dave’s Clover Farm grocery store followed by Dave’s Park and Rec. pool hall. He also opened accounts for Stewart Sandwiches and sold life insurance for Combined Insurance. For approximately 20 years, he worked at J & M Mfg. in several positions, retiring as the office manager. Dave was a hard worker and continued working up until a couple of weeks before his death as the Gambling Manager for American Legion Post 82.
His wife, Linda, passed away on July 27, 2000. He married Donna Brady on September 24, 2002 who also preceded him in death on June 12, 2008. He married Laura “Laurie” Williams on April 24, 2010.
Dave was an accomplished pool player and was known for his quote, “If you can see a ball, you can make a ball.” He also enjoyed playing cards, board games, gardening, watching his grandkids play sports, going fishing at his brother’s cabin at Lake of the Woods and spending time at the camper in Waterville with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie, son, Todd (Susan) Schneider of Owatonna, daughter, Denise Schneider of Austin, step son, Mark Friederichs of La Crescent, step daughter, Kristine (Steve) Parker of Neenah, WI, four grandchildren, Chelsea, Mitchell, Caitlin, and Mckinley Schneider, six step grandchildren, Cassandra Hughes, Michael Meredith, Zachary Meredith, Brandon Friederichs, Haley Parker, and Dakota Parker, two step great grandchildren, brother, Phillip (RuthAnn) Schneider of Algona, sister, Pat (Chuck) Hartwig of Kanawha, IA, mother-in-law, Andrea Walvoord, sisters-in-law, Alice Struss of Granada and Janet (Gary) Parno of Ripon, WI, brother-in-law Harvey (Barb) Dontje and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his wife, Donna, his parents, father-in-law Ervin Walvoord, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and George Simon and brother-in-law, Earl Struss.
