ROBERT HARVEY WHITING SR., age 91, of Mankato, formerly of Winnebago, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Cottage Wood Senior Living in Mankato.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 501 South Second Street in Mankato with Rev. Michelle Hargrave officiating. He was born May 17, 1923, at Mankato, the son of Robert and Luretta (Harvey) Whiting. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1941. After high school he joined the United Sates Army and served during WWII. In December of 1943 he married Darlene Mae Goor, together they had four children. On September 3, 1999 he married Dona M. Wilder, and together they resided in Winnebago until moving to Mankato.
He was active in the Winnebago American Legion, former City Councilman and Mayor of Winnebago and helped get the Corn Plus Ethanol Plant brought to Winnebago, was a member of the Winnebago United Methodist Church and the Centenary United Methodist Church of Mankato. He loved fishing watching baseball, and most of all teaching his children how to be great parents and citizens.
He is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Whiting Jr. of Brandon, SD, daughter, Kathy(Larry) Struck of Denison, IA, son, Mark (Deb) Whiting of Brainerd, MN, daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Hull of Mesa, AZ, sister, Esther (Donald) Farm of Mankato, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 4 step daughters, and 3 step sons.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, wife Dona, granddaughter, Caroline Whiting, great-granddaughter, Devyn Whiting, parents, and daughter-in-law Patricia Whiting.
