Violet I. Estebo, 93, formerly of Amboy, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2015, with her daughter by her side at the Mapleton Community Home.
Violet was born on February 21, 1921, along with her identical twin sister Viola, to William H. and Myrtle M. (Brown) Cole on the family farm in rural Amboy, Minnesota. Violet attended and completed 8th grade at Shelby country school. Violet then went to work as a housekeeper/cook and nanny for various families. Violet and Arnold were married on April 14th, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Amboy. It was a double wedding ceremony along with Violet’s twin Viola, and her fiancé Justice Sullivan. Arnold and Violet lived in North Mankato when they were first married. In the spring of 1951 they moved to their home in Amboy, just weeks before the 1951 flood occurred in North Mankato. This flood totally destroyed the home they were living in before moving. Arnold and Violet joined the Jackson Lake Lutheran Church in 1951. Violet was active in the church teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible School, member of JLW, and quilting. Violet has been a member of JLLC for over 64 years. Arnold and Violet were blessed with two children, Gary Arnold, and Mary Jane. Violet for many years was a stay-at-home Mom and homemaker supporting Arnold’s farm work and custom baling jobs for many area farmers. After Gary and Mary were in elementary school, she worked with the school lunch program in Amboy. Later she worked for Stokely Van Camp Canning Company in Winnebago and Fairmont for over 15 years. Arnold and Violet’s travels included the Black Hills, Colorado, Washington D.C., New York, and Norway. Vegetable Gardening, baking and spending time with her grandchildren were the joys of her days. Her dill pickles and homemade buns were especially enjoyed at family and church gatherings. Violet was so proud of her two Grandson’s Richard and Mark Anderson. They especially looked forward to her homemade cookies and playing games of Monopoly, Checkers, and UNO. Grandma Estebo played to win, so when Mark and Richard won, they knew it was their win. Violet would have so enjoyed watching her 2 Great Grandsons’ Grant (3) and Miles (1) grow up. Violet has resided at the Mapleton Community Home since July of 2008. The community of friends, caregivers, and staff became her/our extended family. Their wonderful care and kindness will never be forgotten.
Violet is loved and survived by her two children Gary of Schofield, Wisc and Mary (Harlan) Anderson of Cokato, Mn. Grandson’s Richard (Jenny) of Hastings and Mark of Cokato. Great-grandson’s: Grant Samuel and Miles Joseph Anderson of Hastings. Brother-in-law Harvey (Betty) Estebo, sister-in-in law’s Marlene and JoAnne and many nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 59 years, Arnold; her parents William and Myrtle (Brown) Cole; three brothers: Harry, Glenn, and James “Bud” Cole and five sisters: Dorothy Treanor, Margaret Wishart, Frances Hanson, Viola Sullivan, and Alice Mahler.
Violet is deeply loved and will live forever in our hearts and memories.
