Arnold Lewis

Arnold Lee Lewis, 91, Winnebago, MN passed away peacefully in his home on January 10, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago from 4-7:00 pm and one hour before the services on Wednesday. Interment will be held at a later date. Arnold Lee Lewis was born on September 4, 1923, the first of five children born to Harold and Golda Lewis. At the time of his birth the family resided on a farm in rural Lewisville. In 1928 Arnold started school in a one room schoolhouse in Martin County District 24. He completed eight years of schooling there before moving on to high school in Truman, MN. He attended high school for a short time before dropping out to help his dad on the family farm. In June of 1944 during World War II, he joined the US Navy and completed basic training at the Farragut Naval Training Station in Idaho. He took Gunnery Training in San Diego, CA. After training he was assigned to the Armed Guard Center at Treasure Island. He served overseas on two different ships before returning to the United States. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. After returning from the service, Arnold began farming around the Winnebago area. On October 18, 1952, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Doolittle. Arnold and Carolyn had three sons, Robert, Charles and Timothy. In 1960, they moved to Moose Lake, MN where he farmed and worked full time as a manager for the Moose Lake Co-op Feed Store. In June of 1967 they moved back to Winnebago where he took a job driving truck for various companies and farmed. He put his heart and soul into his work on the farm. Arnold was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago where he was a member of the men’s group and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion. Arnold is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Winnebago; three sons, Robert (fiancé Suzanne) of Morristown, MN, Charles (Nancy) of Delavan, Timothy (Julie) of Owatonna; one step daughter, Carol Jansen of McGregor, MN; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret (Dick) Styve of Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Richard; one sister, Helen; two daughters-in-law, Cindy and Carol.
