John Joseph Tallman

April 24, 1923 — January 2, 2014

John J. Tallman, age 90, of Amboy died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Mapleton Community Home, Mapleton. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at the United Methodist Church of Amboy with Rev. Lynn Borgeson officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Spencer Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago is assisting the family with the arrangements. Web tributes may be left at www.spencerowen.com John was born April 24, 1923, in Lakefield, MN, the son of August R. and Ida C. (Marquart) Tallman. He was raised on the family farm in Lakfield where he attended school. He attended Mankato Cosmetology College, graduating in 1941. The family moved into Lakefield in 1946 and John worked as a hairdresser. On June 30, 1948 he married Bernice M. Siemers in Lakefield. Bernice was also a hairdresser and the couple owned a beauty shop in Jackson before moving to Amboy in January 1951. In May, 1951 their son, Tom, was born. The couple owned and operated their own beauty shop in Amboy for many years. John continued styling into his 70’s. John was a member of the Minnesota Hairdressers Association where he served as treasurer and was a longtime member of United Methodist Church of Amboy. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernice Tallman of Mapleton, son, Tom (Joan) Tallman of Amboy, sister, Cole Bakalyar of Lakefield, sister in law, Bernice Tallman of Lakefield, four granddaughters: Lori (Jeremy) Caye, Abigail Tallman, Stacy (Collin) Strobush, Bethany Tallman (& boyfriend Aaron), two great grandchildren, Dylan & Vivien Caye and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.
