Jerome E. "Jerry" Weir, age 83, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Vernon Center, MN died Saturday, August 3, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Vernon Center, with Father Jason Kern officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, Vernon Center. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the church. Jerry was born September 1, 1929, in Vernon Center, MN, the son of James and Jane (Neill) Weir. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1947 and attended the College of St. Thomas. Jerry served in the U.S. Army and returned to Minneapolis where graduated from the College of St. Thomas in 1956. He worked for Prudential Ins. Co. and Pfizer Genetics before becoming a real estate agent with Keller-Williams Agency. He was married to Mertice J. Mooney in the spring of 1959 in Clearwater, MN. In 1984 Jerry moved to Austin, Texas where he continued to work as a real estate agent until he retired in 2012. Jerry loved watching a variety of sports and participating in softball, golf and tennis. He also enjoyed driving cross country to visit his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his son, Tom Weir of Asheborough, NC, son, Scott Weir of New York, NY, son, Ted Weir of Bemidji, daughter, Barbara Weir of Brooklyn Center, his brother, David Weir of Vernon Center, sisters, Rita Weir and Ann Weir both of Inver Grove Heights, his grandchildren, Chuck & Nikki Anderson Weir and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Fischenich, and brothers: Patrick, Paul & Russell Weir.
