Ronald Earl Kiehm was born December 15, 1928, at Delavan, MN to Earl and Harriett (Reed) Kiehm. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1946. He served in the US Army from 1951-1954 as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. On March 16, 1953 Shorty Kiehm and Janet Jensen were united in marriage at Winnebago, MN. They made their lifetime home in rural Delavan where Shorty farmed and provided custom corn picking, corn shelling, and farm drainage services to area farmers. He and Janet earned their private pilot licenses and shared the joys of piloting their Cessna 150. He soon added aerial photography services for his tiling clients. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. With a servant’s heart he dedicated time to family, friends, and neighbors; the American Legion; the Delavan Elevator Board; the local insurance board; and local cemeteries. Humble and a consummate gentleman, Shorty’s greatest joys were his wife of 60 years, his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed the history of World War II, square-dancing, bowling, flying, fishing, hunting, and playing pool.
Shorty will be deeply missed by his wife, Janet; daughters Carol (Dan) Humburg of Brookings, SD, Sharon (John) Leiferman of White, SD, Pat Murry of Madison Lake, MN, and son, Ken Kiehm of Minneapolis; grandsons, Jared and Jens Murry, Jacob and Joshua Humburg, and Matthew Leiferman; sister-in-law, Patti McCreary; his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Memorials may be directed to the Rice Lake Cemetery (Delavan).
