On February 15th, 2013 at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato, Richard “Dick” Scofield passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. Born on January 13, 1946 in Winnebago, MN to Roy and Nellie (Weise) Scofield, Dick attended and graduated from Winnebago High School. On October 7, 1966 Dick and Joyce Butler of Delavan, were married in Madelia, MN.
Dick and Joyce made their home in Winnebago where Dick joined his father and brother working on the family farm. In 1973, Dick and his brother Larry purchased Huntley Feed & Grain which Dick went on to own and manage. In the early 1980’s he purchased a tractor/trailer and became an owner/operator hauling livestock for Curtiss Trucking of Blue Earth. In 1987, Dick and son Stacey formed Bar 4 Inc. and Dick continued to haul livestock throughout the United States. Before his retirement from trucking in 2011, he took a short break in 2005 while he assisted his son Travis at the Farmer’s Elevator in Bellingham, MN.
A generous, thoughtful and loving man, Dick cherished his family and although his work often took him away from home, he remained present in spirit and heart. He was a clever yet humble man whose great indulgences were a game of cards, John Wayne movies and the Soggy Bottom Boys. His greatest joys were his wife of 46 years, his three children and four grandsons.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joyce, son Stacey (StacyLee) Scofield of Winnebgo, son Travis (Carla) Scofield of Bellingham, MN, daughter, Jennifer (Kip) Dombeck of St. Michael, MN, sister, Shirley (Pete) Haight of Winnebago, brother, Larry Scofield of Aitkin, MN, sister Charlene Stebritz of Sioux Falls, SD, grandsons Colt and Ty Scofield and Kaleb and Evan Dombeck.
Dick is preceded in death by his mother and father.
