Kaye Karen Michel, age 73, of Winnebago, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 10:30am, at First United Methodist Church in Winnebago, with Rev. Durene Cornell & Rev. Mike Sager officiating. Visitation time will be from 5:00pm-8:00pm Friday, January 11, 2013, at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and 1 hour before the service at the church. She was born November 27, 1939, in Winnebago, MN to Raymond & Elizabeth "Bette" (Babcock) Marsh. She graduated from Winnebago High School in 1957.
She married Harold Paul Nichols on June 29, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Winnebago. Their two children, Rory and Shari were raised in Winnebago.
Kaye was a secretary at State Farm Insurance for 17 years in Minneapolis and Mankato, and then worked at Johanson & Johanson Law Office in Winnebago for 20 years. On September 17, 1973, she married William "Bill" Michel.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and served in a variety of roles, including Sunday school teacher, treasurer and secretary.
Kaye learned how to sew from her Grandma Babcock, and sewing continued to be a lifelong hobby. She operated a sewing business, "SewWhat," out of her home for several years.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband Bill, of Winnebago; son Rory (Colleen) Nichols, of Austin; daughter Shari (James) Meyer, of Winnebago; brother Barry (Joy) Marsh, of Winnebago; brother-in-law Jack Madsen, of Good Thunder, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren David, Tricia, Michael, Sarah, Candace, Brent and Cassandra, along with 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Harold Nichols, and sister Sharol Madsen.
