WARNER 'SHORTY' MINER, age 88, of Winnebago, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Patriot Assisted Living in Winnebago.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 01, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, with Fr. Leo Koppala officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago, MN. Visitation time will be from 5:00- 8:00 PM Friday, November 30, 2012, at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. He was born March 6, 1924, at Carter, South Dakota, the son of Arthur and Clara (Wagner) Miner. The family moved to Easton, Minnesota where he attended school. In 1950 he married Barbara Kirkeby in St. Paul and together they had 3 children, Stevan, Vicki, and Jim.
After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army and was in the 515th Parachute Division where he was a radio operator. After his discharge he purchased Dave’s Tydol Service Station, and owned it until 1969 when he purchased the vacant building across the street and created Miner Skelly Service. His son, Stevan, took over in 1985 and Shorty continued to help out until his retirement. After Barbara’s death in 1979 he was later remarried to Fern Kaderabek in Jackson, MN in 1987.
Shorty is survived by his son, Stevan (Susan) Miner of Winnebago, his daughter, Vicki (Scott) Wiltse of Blue Earth, his son, Jim (Kathy) Miner of Rochester and two granddaughters- Taylor and Erin Wiltse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Barbara Miner, his second wife Fern Kaderabek in 2000, a brother Melvin Miner, sisters Winnie Masters & Florence “Toots” Lutter and a granddaughter, Lauren Wiltse.
