Dorothy Rose (Starke) Baumgard, age 84, of Vernon Center, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 10:30 AM, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Vernon Center, with Rev. John Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Dorothy was born April 20, 1928, in Mankato, the daughter of Emil and Wilhelmina Starke. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet and attended Trinity Lutheran School. On May 6, 1953 she was united in marriage to Melvin Carl Baumgard at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. After their marriage the couple farmed the Baumgard homestead outside of Vernon Center. Dorothy and Melvin shared 59 ½ years of marriage and were blessed with five children. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Vernon Center. She enjoyed listening to polka music, watching the Minnesota Twins & Vikings and several games shows such as Wheel of Fortune.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Melvin Baumgard of Vernon Center, her daughter, Sharon (Bill) McDermott of Winnebago her sons: Gary (Sharon) Baumgard of Vernon Center, Randy (Julie) Baumgard of Waseca, Wayne (Cheryl) Baumgard of Mapleton, Darrell Baumgard of Amboy, her daughter in law, Debra Baumgard of Lake Crystal, her brother, Emil (Marion) Starke, Jr. of Hutchinson, her sister, Marlys (Jerome) Peters of Nicollet, her sister, Bernice Truebenbach of Mankato and eight grandchildren: Andrew, Kelly, Justin, Dustin, Chris, Amy, Lisa and Logan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and a grandson-Adam Baumgard.
