GLADYS MILLER
Gladys Miller, age 101 of Winnebago, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago with Rev. Michael Roys Officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home of Winnebago is assisting the family with the arrangements. Gladys was born October 9, 1910 to George and Roea (McCall) Bales, south of Huntley in Verona Township. She was a graduate of the Huntley High School. In September 1933 she and Rollo Miller were married. She cooked at the Huntley School for 2 ½ years. In 1950, Gladys and Rollo moved from their farm into Huntley where Gladys became postmaster and served in that capacity for 26 years. Later, she moved to Winnebago.
Gladys was a member of the National League of Postmasters and National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winnebago where she served as an Elder and an active member of the Women’s Association. She was also a member of the Starlight Rebekah Lodge #11 an the Post Noble Grand Club. Gladys enjoyed cooking, playing cards, traveling and for many years sponsored a child through the Christian Children’s Fund.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Rollo in 1966, her parents, three sisters, four brothers, and niece LaRene Anderson of Huntley..
She is survived by nieces: Donna Bea (Bales) Bauman of Blue Earth, Mary Ann (Schellenberg) Hunt of Sioux City, Iowa, five great nieces and nephews, nine great great nieces and nephews and fourteen great great great nieces and nephews.
