WINNEBAGO – Harold Leroy Quint, age 88, of Winnebago, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Parker Oaks, Winnebago, MN. Funeral services wil be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Winnebago. Harold was born January 5, 1924 in Winnebago to John and Mary (Schuman) Quint. He attended Winnebago High School and graduated May 31, 1942. Harold enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served in the 23rd Regiment of the Fourth Marine Division. Harold obtained the rank of corporal and served with distinction in the following World War II campaigns: Roi-Namur in the Kwajalein Atoll of the Marshall Islands, Saipan of the Marianas Islands, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Harold received several military accommodations, most notably, the Purple Heart for service to his country at Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. Harold married Gladys Zellmer of Amboy, MN on May 28, 1949 in Mankato, MN, and later divorced. Harold sold insurance for Woodmen Accident Co., worked as a surveyor for the Minnesota Highway Department, worked for various other private road construction firms, and later worked for the City of Fairmont Parks Department. Harold was an avid reader, walker, and enjoyed wildlife.
Harold is survived by one daughter, Marjeanne Scheff of Newton, IA, two sons, Randy of Rochester, Thom of Irving, TX, brothers Robert of Owatonna, Larry (Diane) of Monroe, MI, Roger and fiancé Marie Nelson of Minneapolis, sisters Mrs. Hazel Sweeney of Highland, IN, Mrs. Marian Carlson and Mrs. Roland (Delores) Osmundson, both of Delavan; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvey of Rogers, AR, sister Mrs. Isabelle Foster of Winnebago, and daughter Jillayne Engel of Montrose, MI. Memorials are preferred to the Winnebago Library in Winnebago.
