Regina "Tootie" Schaible-Halverson-Honken, age 76, of Winnebago, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 2:30 PM, at Jackson Lake Lutheran Church in Amboy, with Rev. Todd Substad officiating. Burial will be in East Lutheran Cemetery, Delavan, MN. Visitation time will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home, 345 Sixth Ave S.E. Regina was born August 31, 1935 to William and Vida (Stauffenberg) Schaible at their farm home northeast of Winnebago, MN. In March of 1936 the family moved to Delavan, MN where she grew up. She attended country school for 6 years before going to school in Delavan and graduated with the class of 1953.
She was united in marriage to Roger H. Halverson on August 31, 1958. Following their marriage they moved to a farm near Winnebago, MN. Three children were born to this union, Debra, Susan and Jeffrey. Roger was killed in a car accident on January 28, 1970. Following his death Regina worked as a cook at North Star Café and the Coffee Cup Café and eventually as a CNA for 14 years at the Baptist Home (Parker Oaks) where she met and then married Clyde Honken on September 22, 1990. She moved with Clyde to Buffalo Center, IA where she lived until August of 2010. Clyde passed away December 28, 2001 as a result of a tractor accident.
Regina has been active in Senior Citizens, Christian Woman’s, American Legion Auxiliary, Grant Neighborly Birthday Club, Women’s Fellowship and Farming of Yesteryear. Regina loved to dance in her younger years and always enjoyed reading, writing, baking and socializing with friends and family. Regina will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and her heart of gold. She will be dearly missed.
Regina is survived by her children Debra (Matt) of Winnebago, MN., Susan (Paul) Wilke and Jeffrey Halverson all of No. Mankato, MN; five grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Taylor, Stephanie and Haley. Brother Charles (Barbara) Schaible, nephews Bill and Tom Schaible and niece Diane Bell. A cousin Elizabeth (DuWayne) Evenson, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins in the US and Germany.
Preceding her in death were her parents; infant brother, Friedrick; husbands Roger and Clyde; sister-in-law Donna Schaible, Aunt, Ruth Stauffenberg, and Uncle, Irvin Stauffenberg.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Jackson Lake Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
