Sylvan L. Meyer

Sylvan L. Meyer, age 82, of Winnebago, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago, with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery in Winnebago. Sylvan was born September 9, 1929 in rural Welcome, MN the son of Lorenz and Wilma (Heuer) Meyer. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome in 1942. He attended Fairmont High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1952. Following his honorable discharge from the service in 1954, he returned to Winnebago where he was married to Marian A. Jahnke on August 3, 1957 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Sylvan moved to his Winnebago area farm in 1959 was a farmer and trucker most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports on TV, gardening, old time country western music and playing cards with the local card club. Sylvan is survived by his wife, Marian Meyer of Winnebago, his son, Doug Meyer of Winnebago, his daughter, Tammy (Terry) Widmann of Brooklyn Park, his daughter, Karen (Mike) Lloyd of Winnebago, his brother, Gary (Maxine) Meyer of Finlayson, his sister, Arleen (Darold) Vanderford of Fairmont, his grandson, Stewart Meyer and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ronald Meyer.
