Berniece Royer, age 87, of Winnebago, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church in Winnebago, with Rev. Durene Cornell officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago and one hour prior to services at the church. Berniece was born July 28, 1924, at Tracy, MN, the daughter of John and Ethel (Jackson) Toft. She was raised and educated in Balaton, MN where she was a 1942 graduate of Balaton High School. Following school she traveled to California where she was married to M. Neil Royer on August 2, 1942 in Salome, Arizona. The couple lived in California and other areas during WW II before returning to Winnebago in 1947 where Berniece helped her father and husband run the grocery store for 10 years. She also began working for Stokely-Van Camps during that time and eventually worked with her husband at Royer Plumbing and Heating for many years, where she was a fixture at the reception and bookkeeping desk. Berniece was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Winnebago where she was a past president. She was a very loving, caring & giving person who loved spending time with her family, friends and others.
Berniece is survived by her husband, M. Neil Royer of Winnebago, her son, Neil (Jackie) Royer of Trimont and their children: Justin (Amanda) Royer, Kelly (Joel) Schrotberger, her son, Bruce (Mary Beth) Royer of N. Mankato and their children: Matt (Shannon) Royer, Phil (Vanessa) Royer, Luke (Jenna) Stevens-Royer, her son, Dick (Mavis) Royer of Winnebago and their children: April & Nick Royer, her son, Jeff Royer of Winnebago and great grandchildren: Olivia, Elle & Juliana Royer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Roger Johnson & Orville Toft, and sisters: Viola Paschke, Ann Thompson and Jo Jones.
