Lester Hatteberg, age 86, of Delavan, died Monday, November 14, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan, with Rev. Todd Substad officiating. Burial will be in East Lutheran Cemetery, Delavan. Visitation time will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan. Lester was born December 30, 1924, at rural Mapleton,the son of Markus and Tillie (Johnson) Hatteberg. He was raised and educated in the Delavan area where he graduated from Delavan High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the South Pacific as an Electricians Mate. He returned to Mapleton following the war and attended a Farm Trade School in Minnesota Lake. He soon returned to farming his family farm where he continued to farm until moving to Delavan in 1993. He was married to Mary Ann Hansen on August 22, 1959 in Mankato. Lester was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan, Delavan American Legion Post 486, DHS inc., and the Delavan Sportsman’s Club. Lester enjoyed farming, his dogs and loved many good conversations with anyone who cared to join. He especailly enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lester is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hatteberg of Delavan, his son, Mark (Jayne) Hatteberg of Mapleton, his son, David (Tina) Hatteberg of Chanhassen, his son, Bill (Carol) Barnhart of Minneapolis, his daughter, Linda (Robert) Stivers of Kansas City, Missouri, his eight grandchildren: Mark Barnhart, Lauren Barnhart, LinMarie Engvaldson, Joseph Balfe, Jimmy & Peter Hatteberg, Mara Anderson, Lucas Gau, Logan & Katilyn Dylla and three great grandchildren: Skylan Balfe, Teagan Engvaldson and Taylor Balfe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Albert & Marvin Hatterberg, sister, Alice Lathrop and an infant daughter.
